Ahmedabad, Jan 18: A major fire broke out on oil tanker MT Genessa off the coast of Kandla in Gujarat on Wednesday. While the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued 26 crew members on board MT Genessa, efforts were on to douse the blaze. Two members have sustained burn injuries and were undergoing treatment, said reports.
Three ICG Vessels, nine Tugs from KPT, Reliance, Essar, Adani and ICG Dornier were pressed in action, said the Gujarat Defence Ministry. It also added that water sampling showed no oil spill following the incident. The ICG Pollution Control Vessel was also at the site while ICGS Samudra Pavak was overseeing operations.
The MT Genessa oil tanker, which was anchored about 15 nautical miles off Deendayal Port in Kandla, was reportedly carrying at least 30,000 tonnes of high-speed Diesel.
